History

Transplanted to NY from London in 2013,  International  Artist Development Mentor, Manager, Rights Activist and Events Producer, Tinku, has been managing artists since 2003, taking a global perspective on markets and career development. Her notable successes include her 16 year plus as an artist manager, developing global careers for a diverse roster of crossover artists including Amp Fiddler,  Peven Everett, Tortured Soul, Incognito, Sixto Rodriguez, Shuggie Otis, Stephanie Mckay and KING (whose successfully navigated to their major Grammy category nomination in 2017 as the first fully independent artist  in the Urban Contemporary category) to name a few, her current roster now including Marc Cary, Gary Bartz and Melanie Charles. As an event producer, she has also worked extensively across jazz, soul and hiphop, working with artists as diverse as Rakim, Marlena Shaw, Johnny Clarke, Horace Andy, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Blackstar, De La Soul, Wu Tang Clan, Big Daddy Kane and more, building on her history in event production in Scotland with Jazz promoters Assembly Direct, as well as her time at the world acclaimed Jazz Cafe in London. With a background in record labels (working at critical reissue label Strut Records in London), Tinku has been passionate about rights administration, and  expanded her company to provide education and services to help artists effectively navigate the modern right environment. Working with iconic artists such as Roy Ayers and Gary Bartz to reconnect them with black box revenue, as well providing comprehensive advice and assistance to younger artists, who also struggle to connect with the information they need to effectively administer their rights.

Traxploitation was launched in 2016 by Wayne “Lotek” Bennett. The mission is to help self-releasing artists with the business side of the industry allowing them to focus on what they are best at, the music. Partnering in the USA with Intrinsic Artists for Traxploitation US.

Wayne started in the music industry in 1993 as a “tape operator”. First at Motown UK’s East London studio and then Rollover Studios in West London. He assisted in many recordings sessions for a wide variety of artists from Leftfield to Seal.

By 1997 he was the engineer for independent UK hip-hop label, Sound Of Money records. There he helped shape the sound of a young Rodney Smith, AKA Roots Manuva.

In 1999 Roots Manuva signed to Ninjatune’s newly formed Big Dada label. Lotek produce tracks for the first 2 albums (“Brand New Second Hand”, and the Mercury Prize nominated “Run Come Save Me”). He also directed the Run Come Save Me UK and European tours.

In 2003 Wayne signed to Big Dada as an artist in his own right. He released 2 albums under the name Lotek Hi-Fi. He also produced the 2009 Mercury Prize-winning album “Speech Therapy” by Speech Debelle, who beat artists such as Florence and the Machine, La Roux and Bats for Lashes to take home the prize.

In 2016 Wayne joined the member services team at PPL (Phonographic Performance Ltd). His role was to help artists and record labels get paid for their recordings.

While working at PPL he realised how many artists and musicians there were who were missing out on royalties and other revenue from their music.  It was also apparent that there was no reliable source of information to guide people through the process of collecting revenue due to them.

Traxploitation offers one to one advice and consulting on the music business, royalty collection, label services, and workshops aimed at helping artists understand the industry.
